A third consecutive month of increases in online canada jobs postings suggests the Canadian labour market has hit bottom and is set to recover in the months ahead, says a report Thursday from the Conference Board of Canada.
After an uninterrupted nine-month slide, the board's help-wanted index has risen in four of the past five months, gaining 0.6 points in October.
Since October 2008, 400,000 jobs have been lost in Canada and the unemployment rate has risen to 8.6%. Employment started to grow again in August and September, and while jobs were lost in October, they were all part-time.
As a recovery unfolds, however, those seeking work will be facing a tough job market. In October, there were 3.7 job hunters for every online job posting, almost twice as many as there were a year ago.
